The wait is over, Gooners! The Premier League is back, and so are we, the Steel City Gooners, in our beloved Cork Harbour Pub.
The only thing missing was the scent of freshly cut grass and the roar of the Emirates, but we made up for it with a vibrant crowd, a little bit of 43rd Street flair, and of course, an Arsenal victory!
Arsenal 2-0 Wolves: A Perfect Start
As the clock struck kickoff, the Emirates was buzzing, and so was Cork Harbour Pub. Arsenal came out with guns blazing, and it wasn’t long before Kai Havertz, found the back of the net! Cheers erupted, pints clinked, and the Steel City Gooners were in full voice. “60 million down the drain...” we sang as if Havertz heard us and decided to show off.
But hold onto your pint glasses because our hearts collectively skipped a beat right before halftime. Bukayo Saka, the star of the show, landed awkwardly from a shot and went down. The room fell silent, and a gasp swept through the pub. But just as quickly, Saka was back on his feet, brushing off the scare. You get the feeling Arteta would have kept him on, even playing on one leg.
Halftime Shenanigans on 43rd Street
As the whistle blew for halftime, the energy inside Cork Harbour spilled out onto 43rd Street. We set up to capture the day with a group photo, but as luck would have it, our timing couldn’t have been better. A Pittsburgh police officer happened to be driving by, and in true Steel City fashion, he flashed his lights, hit the siren, and announced through his microphone, “Hold up! I’ll take that photo for you!” He even stopped traffic just to make sure our Gooner gang was perfectly framed. Now, that’s community service we can get behind!
Singing, Cheering, and a Bit of Nerve-Wracking Fun
The second half was packed with tension and excitement, but our lads held firm. Every pass, every tackle, and every near-miss had the pub on the edge of their seats. Then, like a scene from a Hollywood script, Bukayo Saka, the man of the hour, sealed the deal with a beauty of a goal. The pub erupted and the smiles were ear to ear.
As the final whistle blew, sealing our 2-0 victory, the walls of Cork Harbour were shaken by the triumphant sound of “North London Forever.” This post-victory anthem has become a beloved tradition for the Steel City Gooners, and today was no different as we belted it out with pride.
Next Up: Aston Villa and New Swag
With the first three points of the season in the bag, the excitement is already building for our next fixture against Aston Villa on Saturday, August 24. Cork Harbour Pub will be the place to be, as always. And for those of you who’ve been waiting patiently, the Steel City Gooners will have fresh scarves in stock, just in time to show off your Gooner pride.
Here’s to a fresh season, a strong start, and many more memories to come. Come on you Gooners!
